McLennan's Arch

Close to where I was on Tuesday this is the McLennan Arch. It is probably the most travelled piece of stonework in Glasgow having been re-sited on several occasions. Originally built in 1792 as part of the Assembly Rooms in Ingram Street. It was designed by Robert and James Adam.

The Assembly Rooms were demolished in 1890 and it has been on the move ever since. It has been at its present location since 1991/92.

It bears the inscription "This Arch was presented to his fellow citizens by Bailie James McLennan J.P." (1893), hence the reason it is known as McLennan's Arch.
