Acorn

I went to visit Elizabeth today for lunch down the road at Acorn.

Its so nice to discover this little sustainable community just down the road from my house. Driving West on route 33 along the rural route they are tucked back in a blanket of forest patches and hay fields just outside of Cuckoo Virginia. I love it.

There are rows of kale and mustard greens, garlic and onions, corn and squash. Flower gardens hug the paths around the 30 acres or so of land and bee hives buzz with activity at the edge of the fields. There is a barn full of old tools and funky farming inventions, a homemade adobe lounge someone made, and the kitchen radiates savory warm smells from steaming pots and crowded spice racks.

We sat in the light filtering through the oak trees and dined on fresh salad greens, homemade mac and cheese, and spring asparagus from the garden for lunch. Mmm-mmmM! Delicious.
