Crumbling cliffs
I went for a walk with my parents along Burton Bradstock beach this afternoon. The sea there is wonderful - dramatic and uncompromising. It's not a place to swim unless the sea is completely calm, as the sea bed drops away steeply in steps about 6 ft at a time and swimmers can get dragged down by a devastating undertow (see the view here - you might just be able to make out the shadow of Portland on the horizon.
The cliffs themselves are not at all stable - every few weeks large chunks crumble and break away, but the aftermath is a wonderful new selection of fossils amongst the rubble on the beach.
