to the beat

I got to spend a few hours in Fatimid Cairo in Mu'izz Street and inside the Sultan Barquoq Mosque yesterday, along with Scorpionkiss. The highlight was definitely the Tanoura or Whirling Dervish performance. I wish they had come out a little bit earlier when the light was better but it was still exhilarating just getting to watch them spin and whirl, standing, laying on the ground, whipping themselves into a frenzy to the beat of an Egyptian tabla.
