Wedding crowns

A beautiful wedding ceremony of a colleague and good friend held at a tiny church by the sea. The couple had also a daughter which was baptized right after.

These are the wedding crowns, a very important aspect of a Greek wedding ceremony. They are two crowns, one for the groom and another for the bride, joined by a ribbon. The priest holds them in the shape of the cross above the bible and bless them saying a prayer. He then places them on the bride and the groom and the best man will also change them three times taking care to keep the ribbon straight. The wedding crowns are kept by the bride and groom as a souvenir of their marriage.

This is the first wedding of the three I've been invited to this month! A very busy month and all because next year is a leap year and it is considered bad luck to get married then.
