They Love #UTG

Beautiful sunny day in Aberdeen today, first time I've been at the office for a couple of weeks ... took a stroll down to Union Terrace Gardens and, as expected, this beautiful park was providing many citizens and visitors with a green oasis in the heart of the city. They love UTG. For those from outwith the area, you may be amazed to learn that there are plans afoot to destroy this tranquil natural ampitheatre, ripping out the mature trees to create a drab concrete square (at the level from which the photo is taken). It really reminds me of the line from Joni Mitchell's song Big Yellow Taxi "paved paradise, put up a parking lot". Sad that all over the world developers always seem to covet public open space especially when it is right in the city centre. Here's to public space for the enjoyment of all.
