Like bees to water...
Out walking with hound junior today, through buzzing meadows full of lush grass, Red Clover and Buttercups, I came upon a couple of well stocked fish ponds, nestled into a valley, at the edge of some woodland.
The ponds were flanked with these pure golden water Irises, Iris pseudacorus, buzzing and heaving with bees.
Here is a rather large Bombus pascuorum, the Common Carder Bee, gorging itself on one of the Irises flowerheads. Her head literally stuff in as far as it would go.
