Lyra's life in pictures

That's it, I'm off to Grandma's!

Back Blipped

This T-Shirt made me laugh so much! I fully expect to hear my feisty little girl utter this phrase many a time as she gets older. We are ever so lucky and have Granny and Grandpa living at the top of the garden so she will be able to flit back and forth between the two houses as much as she likes. We currently have exactly the same arrangement with our dog!

Tom grew up in the big house at the top of the garden and an evil old woman called Mrs Jacobs used to live in the bungalow at the bottom of the garden. She poisoned the raspberries and would puncture his footballs and shout over the fence if he played too loudly. He really hated her. When I lived with Tom and his parents we would get phone calls from her ranting about the noise we were making or the fact that our trees had grown too tall. There was not a lot of love for her it has to be said.

Then she died. Tom would not even entertain the idea of looking around her bungalow* so me and his mother went instead and fell in love with its potential, not to mention its wonderful location. So Tom was persuaded into having a look around just as a matter of interest. As we walked back out the front door he asked 'So what are we going to offer?' and the rest, as they say, is history.

*his reasoning was a) Mrs Jacobs was so evil he would not want to spend time in 'her house' and b) He could not abide the idea of living in a bungalow where you did not go upstairs to bed.

objection a) was overcome by us doing a massive and outrageous decorating job on arrival (you may notice the occasional glimpse of gold wallpaper in my blips) and b) well he just got over it... and now we have a small wee child we're delighted not to have any steps for her to tumble down although we both hate carrying her up and down other people's stairs as we're so unused to it we're convinced we'll drop her!
