Cultivated Species
Is the name of artist Kaisu Koivisto's installation which is placed in the fountain by Hotel Tammer. The material is steel, zinc-coated with electrolysis.
Quote from the presentation text of this summer project by Tampere Museum of Contemporary Art:
"The installation comments on genetic modification and our relationship with the natural environment. Echoing geometric and architectural structures, the large mushrooms are like aliens from a science-fiction world that have infiltrated into the Finnish nature. Although nightmarishly large mutations in appearance, the beautiful sheen of their steel surfaces makes them immaterial and allows them to belnd smoothly into their surroundings."
So, for or against genetic modification? Or just open for discussion, like most art? The installation is made between 2008-2010.
I made my own modifications when processing the image which I took on this cloudy morning, simply using the antique and enhance colour effects in iPhoto.
