Love Makes the World Go Round
High summer and a day of activity.
After the return of yesterday's unsuitable purchases, we drove our newly repaired car down to Smeaton Garden centre in East Linton to order a garden bench in a size in keeping with our Dower House patio.
This has to be my favourite garden centre - quiet and tranquil with tables outside on the grass to have a coffee and watch the birds come and steal the crumbs left behind by the humans.
On the way home we stopped at the river in East LInton and saw the local boys jumping into the water from high rocks. It looked so inviting until you noticed the goosebumps and the chattering teeth when they finally gave up.
We met some of our cycling buddies there, having a picnic lunch before cycling back to the city. It was lovely to see them and have a blether.
We left them as they got back on their bikes and were heading home via Hailes Castle and Haddington. In the heat, I was quite glad we could hop in the car and drive home.
The Meadows Festival was in full swing by the time we had a late lunch and walked down to see the fun.
The fair was up and running with the big dipper intent on making everyone scream as it went higher and higher and faster and faster. Not for me I'm afraid.
The stalls were the usual mixture of the esoteric and the bizarre. The oddest one was a stall devoted to the so called myth of the flu epidemic and a statement that 9/11 was an inside job. It would have a lot in common with a London Taxi driver who was intent on telling us that man landing on the moon was a complete fallacy.
My blip was one of hundreds taken but seemed the most colourful and a trifle bizarre. It was a sign hung over what appeared to be a gazebo for a love in.
A quick blip and I hurried past. Fortunately his Lordship wasn't interested either.
It did cross our minds that this would have been a perfect venue for selling our excess goods and chattels, and I have to say it wasn't hard to resist buying anything from any of the stalls housing everyone else's clutter. That's probably a first.
Now it's time for a drink in the garden before the forecasted thunder showers.
It's already looking a bit dark.
It's certainly been a good day with lots of action and a bit of socialising thrown in.
