Baloo and the 3 Rescues

Just Nuts

Nuts was a very young, but already fully grown cat when his intial owners moved away and left him to his own devices in a townhouse complex. He was run over by a car shortly after and taken to the vet by the kind old lady next door. He managed to pull through and, after two weeks in hospital, the same old lady fetched him and took him to his new home. She looked after him for 10 years. When the time came for her to retire, she couldn't take him with and decided to have him put down. I couldn't stand the idea and offered to take him... so Nuts moved in and I became his 3rd owner.

He was a wonderful old cat and in many ways the perfect dog: Affectionate, playful, loving and vocal... but without the mess and doggy chaos! He became an integral part of our lives and we loved him sooooooo much. He was ours for 3 years before he became ill. He suddenly started losing weight and was diagnosed with diabetic keto-acidosis, from which he never recovered. He was wasting away in front of our eyes and there was nothing we could do about it. On the afternoon of 6 June 2009 we made the heartbreaking decision to have him put down. Upon our return from the vet that afternoon we went past the nursery and spent the afternoon gardening, as a way of dealing with our sorrow.

Today, exactly 1 year later, we spent the afternoon gardening again... happily fixing up an ugly corner in the garden. Baloo and Paddington were "helping" us, unaware that there was once a cat named Nuts, that used to bask in the afternoon sun... in the same spot... little more than a year ago:)
