One in a billion
Tonight we ran into an old friend of Gary's (another traveler I met on the ferry) from Leeds, England. They hadn't seen each other in years and Gary was completely unaware that she was teaching English in Hangzhou.
You've got to remember that this is the third largest nation in the world and has a population of over one billion, of which 6.4 million live in Hangzhou alone. This was no small coincidence.
She introduced us to her friends and took us out to the north east end of town to an expats' bar next to which was the sort of street food I was dying for! This particular vendor was selling grilled chili oysters.
