Pell Mell - disorderly confusion
Pell-mell is a corruption of Pall-mall, an early form of croquet that was played in a long alley and involved striking a wooden ball with a mallet through a high iron arch at either end of the alley.
Today, all GirlGuide Leaders were invited to attend Himley Hall for Cream Tea. I can't make that sound any less pompous then it is. It was a thank you (which we had to pay £6 for the privileged) for all the help and activities we've done for this years Centenary.
Becky (my right hand Leader) and I decided to go awhile ago. I'm really not sure what made us say yes, as we are not the typical GG Leaders and usually avoid any gatherings. But we went. And we dressed up ... so we thought.
Our first sign of trouble was when we saw the Coach load of people being delivered. It hit us that this event was A LOT bigger than we realized.
Then we saw the tents/gazebos that they brought with them. And the picnic baskets, and tables and chairs. Even that, although awkward for Becky and I as we didn't bring anything except ourselves, wasn't a major issue.
But then we saw the hats. They were wearing hats! And playing croquet on the lawn.
We lasted an hour.
I then came home and finished putting the clothes away into the new wardrobe Daddy and Charlotte built while I was out.
That's more me.
