Cattle Drive!
You must view this LARGER.
We woke up this morning to a great surprise. Someone looked out the window at the ranch and said "Oh look, a man on a horse." It was a lovely sight. He rode down to the driveway and shut the large gate that leads to the Gunn Ranch.
Soon, we saw why! We all ran outside with our cameras. I was bummed that I only had my 50mm lens on the camera but sometimes that's the way things go.
There was a huge, honest-to-god, cattle drive being led down the Gunn Ranch Road. A family of 15 cowboys on horseback were moving hundreds of cows and calves to another pasture above the ranch. The cattle drive soon stretched across all of the road that we could see. This was a family operation, with men, women, and children working to take care of their cattle. This way of life is getting more and more rare in America and is often difficult for outsiders to witness since most of the ranches left are remote, rugged, private, and inaccessible. It was a very special thing to witness, and probably something I will never see again in my lifetime.
