Universal Heartbeat...

I'm loving learning all these things about our hands.  Some obvious, some not so obvious.

Our fingers are very nimble and dexterous aren't they.  Guess how many muscles we have in our fingers?

None...

We have muscles in the palm how our hand that control that very useful opposable thumb but the fingers are controlled by tendons which are connected to muscles in your forearm.  Turn your hand over and wiggle your fingers.  Your fingers are controlled like a Thunderbirds puppet.

If you were trapped by a terror-wrist (see what I did there?) and they were making you choose a finger to be cut off, which one should you choose?  The index finger apparently.  Hand surgeons say that fingers work best together and in this case the index finger is the least useful.

Speaking of working together, ever notice how if you close your fingers onto the palm of your hand, they all naturally point toward the base of your thumb.

Here's a wee thing rang true with me and Mrs TFP.  Generally in males, the ring finger is longer than the index finger but in females it's the opposite way around.

Dermatoglyphics is the scientific study of finger prints.  It is also one of the two longest words in the english language without repeating letters.  The other is uncopyrightable.

Slightly off topic, but this photo was inspired by one a photo on the insert of one of my favourite albums.  I've left a clue but can anyone guess what it is?
