Inconsideration!
Today I am not happy. We've had guys coming to give us quotes to repair the sarking board and tiles on our roof. The other week a guy came and he was making a lot of banging and crashing and scraping noises in the attic which I'd thought was a bit odd and eventually he knocked off what we thought was another slate. Turns out it was an old dirty pane of glass. He'd only gone and pushed out a pane of glass from the sky light. Did he tell us about this? No! Did he quote to repair it? No!
The next guy to do a quote mentioned about replacing the missing pane of glass in the skylight. This puzzled me, I spent a lot of time in the loft hunting for the water stopcock, I'd have noticed a missing pane of glass and also, with a giant hole in the roof, we'd have noticed damp on the ceiling, especially after the torrential downpour the other day. I conviced myself he'd meant it was cracked or something not actually missing so I popped up to investigate. He was right though, huge big hole in the roof where a pane of glass should be. I was raging! The reason we hadn't noticed damp is because it's above the bathroom which has a false ceiling to allow for the halogen spotlights. We've duct taped some plastic over it as best we can and spread a tarp below that but it's not ideal.
Needless to say there is now an extra urgency to getting the roof fixed but we're struggling to find someone who can repair the sarking without the need for scaffolding (which will add a couple of grand to the price). Don't suppose any of the edinburgh people reading this know a good roofer?
In other news:
I completely forgot to mention on yesterday's blip that my new drill is amazing. It makes the battery powered ones I've used in the past feel like a little girl's toy!
