An end has a start
The start of the Tour of Pembrokeshire... a queue of 500-odd cyclists winding around the carpark in the centre of Saundersfoot at 7.30 this morning, then weaving their way up the hill towards the north-west of the town with a police escort. I was towards the back :-). An impressive sight and a great ride, though I could have done with less hills and less wind to be honest. Oh, and although we started in bright sunshine the last 20 miles or so was very wet and cold.
My time for the 82 mile route was 6 hours and 8 minutes, which I consider to be not bad given my bike (which is basically a rather old mountain bike with narrow road tyres on it) and my fitness. I was hoping for below 6 hours but given the conditions I don't think I was up to it.
My favorite part was being in a line of about 8 riders coming down the long winding stretch off the high ground into Broadhaven for the first feeding station. Wonderful! And the worst... a killer hill coming up from the beach near Freshwater East (I think).
You can see the route on my RunKeeper account here.
The day was very well organised and I'd definitely recommend it.
I'm knackered now!
You came on your own
That's how you'll leave
With hope in your hands
And air to breathe
An End had a Start
