A trip down memory lane
This photo of Dumbarton teams of the past hangs proudly in my 90 year old Dad's hall.
The bottom left team includes Murdo Macleod and Ian Wallace both Scottish internationalists and Ian picked up a European cup winner's medal with Notts Forest, Also Walter Smith manager of Glasgow Rangers.
In the top right photo is Charlie Gallacher who also won a European Cup Winners medal with Celtic ,the first British team to win the trophy, sadly Charlie never played in the final.
The unique thing about that Celtic triumph was that every player who played in the final was born within a 30 mile radius of Glasgow, unthinkable in todays era of overpaid mercinaries.
I feel that this situation has led to the demise of the Scottish team and maybe even England, who have a population 10 times ours, do not have the strength in depth they should have.
I dont mind foreigners like Laudrup and Larsson-Ronaldo and Drogba but some of the eastern Europeans and Africans are cheap to employ but nobody will tell me there are not Scottish and English-Welsh and Northern Irish who could be just as good
Anyway rant over, I must be getting old I am beginning to sound like Victor Meldrew
