There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
Actually not a rose, a geranium I think, and in Seattle, not NYC, but the song comes to mind unbidden. The flower is growing out of a little patch of dirt at the base of a concrete wall next to a parking lot in Queen Anne.
The song continues, "It is a special one, it never sees the sun, it only comes out when the moon is on the run and all the stars are gleaming. I'm going to pick that rose and watch her as she grows, in my garden."
I was walkabout while waiting for my daughter to do a gear check before ascending Mt Rainier tomorrow (14400 ft)
