Hamefarin

Today see the start of the 3 official Shetland Hamefaring. It's designed to attract exiled Shetlanders back to their roots similar to the Scottish Governments Homecomingn last year. The first event was in 1960 then 1985 and now this year. Apparently some 600 are expected plus those coming to visit relatives still on the Isles. One of my work colleagues had a knock on their door to find someone claiming to be distantly related from years and years ago. This banner is in Commercial Street in Lerwick and the building with the flagpole flying the Shetland flag is the Grand Hotel. You can always check out the web site of the event to find out more.
