The Bolt Hole
It was the petal that caught my eye.
It is just outside the hole in the outhouse door that our late cats, brothers Phoenix and Milo, used to take refuge through if they were locked out of the house. It was okay when they were together but when Milo got run over and Phoenix had to use it on his own he sometimes got cornered by a marauding cat that belonged to a neighbour. He fought his corner but at personal expense. The marauding cat still visits but there is no Phoenix now.
The door itself was made by the previous owner of our property, probably from salvaged wood. We haven't replaced it in 34 years! In fact, I have recently refurbished this delapidated door rather than replacing it!
