Royan cathedral 8th June
Royan was almost completely leveled in 1945 as one of the last pockets of German occupation of France held out to the last. It was substantially rebuilt in the 1950s. The cathedral was built in the brave new material - reinforced concrete. Despite its brutalist style it is truely beautiful, the coloured glass quite stunning and little areas like this spiral staircase, where concrete cancer is clearly visable are still delightful
