Who Knew?

Not me! We were on our way home, driving somewhere around Chico, California when I kept seeing what looked like mushrooms growing on top of very tall stems! There were hundred of them growing alongside the road. My husband found a place to pull over and I jumped out with my trusty camera. Well, they were obviously not mushrooms. In fact, on closer examination, they looked more like dandelions going to seed except that the were the size of a silver dollar! Now, we have thistles growing in Oregon but they have never, to my knowledge, ended up looking like this! But that is exactly what they were. Dead thistles!

We got home safe and sound!
