Simple Pleasures

MunchieMan

This is Munchie. (so named because as a kitten, he would nibble on peoples toes)
He was found w/ his brother and sister (Hunter and Chip) and their mommycat, Patches who was nursing them in the middle of the road. 8-0
We shooed them out of the road and sent them on their way...
The next morning, Patches and her kittens were all on our porch waiting to be loved.

Munchie is still here, he got lucky. At about 3 months old, Munchie wandered off into the cornfield and disappeared. Not an uncommon thing around here, there are a lot of come/go barn cats in the area. We missed him, but after putting out food and calling for him for 2 weeks - we started thinking he was gone for good. ~Maybe to a family, or a neighbors barn or - heaven forbid...a coyote.

As my husband came home from work one morning, some 2+ weeks after Munchie ran off and heard meowing... it was MUNCHIE!! ....and he was dragging himself across the yard by his front paws - something was VERY wrong. 8[

We were so thrilled to see him, just as he was to see us! Regardless of his injury, he was nuzzling and purring and happy to be home. We called the vet immediately and took him in right away.

We'll never know how it happened, but Munchie's two back knees had been crushed. They were all busted up and the only solution I could find was surgery. After $730.00 surgery to pin his knees back together and giving him therapy sessions 3 times a day for 3 months... he is now 3 years old and doing very well.

And yes - he runs, he plays, he climbs trees. His only limitation seems to be jumping. He doesn't have the ability to push off his back legs - but if he can pull up w/ his front paws...its not a problem. =]

Munchie, you're worth every dime spent!
