Decoy

This pleasant and tranquil pond on the island of Vlieland was actually set up to catch wild ducks using the decoy method. Resident, tame, ducks would fly out to fourage on the shoreline at night, returning with their wild cousins to get fed. The wild ducks would follow their tame relatives - only to get trapped.

This trap was never used. It remains as Nieuw Kooi (and I leave you to work out the English), and one of my many favourite spots on Vlieland. Oh, for reference, I've been coming to Vlieland all my life.
