The Road Goes on For Ever
Today is the annual London to Brighton bike ride today. 40,000 plus cyclists cut our village off from anywhere to the west of us, virtually everywhere then. Many locals get very upset about this, personally I think its part of the annual tapestry of our village and I love it.
I live on about the half way point but before the dread Turners Hill. So everyone that passed us knew it was good news and bad news. Some stopped for refreshment; others were determined to press on until they reached the top of the hill.
There were so many bikes going at different paces it was difficult to walk across the road. At one point Superman cycled passed (the Flintstones had already gone passed as had Dorothy and the Wicked Witch of the West). As he went by a small bag dropped off his bike and lay in the road. Although not big it could had unseated other cyclists if they hit it so I leapt into action. Putting down my stuff I ran across the road, kicking the bag to the other side as I went. I picked it up and walked over to where Superman was parking his bike. Nothing much but there were witnesses, locals sitting and watching the bikes "you saved Superman, you must be a real Super Super hero". Well did I feel good, butI would have felt better if I could have recrossed the road instead of being stuck on the wrong side for quite a long time. Never mind for a few minutes I was a hero
