Ubruni! Ubruni!

Another kid in Ducie village (see also
yesterday’s blip). They are just everywhere. Really, you start to wonder about
the average number of kids per parent in these villages, which is about 12,
according to the guide (who can know). I must say I had mixed feelings seeing
them. Of course they are cute and all, but I can’t help feeling that this
is partly a reason of the problems Africa is still facing. Don’t get me
wrong, I’m not blaming these people, but the high population growth rate can
explain things.

Well, anyone who has thoughts on the issue,
let me know. Maybe we can save the world here.

Ubruni is Twi (the language in most of
the southern part of Ghana) for ‘white man’ and is the first Twi
word you will learn being in Ghana, because you will hear it from practically any
kid you encounter.
