Lunch
Jemma ordered a Lemon and Polenta cake as her sweet after we had a lovely lunch of mezze and bruschetta. The cake came with a fresh apricot. This was all at The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester before we headed home.
Nerds will know that The Whitworth was established from a behest left by Joseph Whitworth. Whitworth was a local engineer who, amongst other things, introduced the standard screw thread. The Whitworth screw became the British standard after being adopted by the railway companies. The "Whitworth Sharpshooters", marksmen in the Confederate army during the American Civil War, were using a rifle designed by Joe.
