The Philosopher's Wife

Book Club, part 8

Book Club is at my house tonight - ack! I am not used to entertaining for actual grownups (just grad students and other low-end academics).

I made brownies from scratch to make up for the cheap wine.

This month's selection was mine - I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith (the same lady who wrote 101 Dalmations). It's a very charming, Jane Austen-esque book written in a journal format by a girl who lives in the 1920s-ish in a moldering castle with her family. Which includes a stepmother named Topaz.

You're intrigued, am I right?

I mean, it's set in ENGLAND. In a CASTLE. What is not to love about that??
