All Saints
Today I spent a beautifully hot, sunny and somewhat peaceful afternoon wandering around an ancient local churchyard. Even though it was flanked on three sides by some very busy roads, the traffic noise was hardly noticeable.
Most of the graves have been reclaimed by nature. There are a few that were clearly tended and had fresh flowers as well as tokens of affection placed on them, but the vast majority lay forgotten. Something that I find extremely sad, even more poignant when they're children's graves. There were peoples' mothers fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and in some cases sons and daughters. Now they all lay there, waiting to be remembered.
There was some method in my madness today. I was attempting to locate the graves of my husband's great great grandparents, without success. They're there somewhere, either unmarked or shrouded in brambles and ivy. But today, today they were remembered.
