Sunshine in Glen Affric

Often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, Glen Affric lies to the west of Loch Ness and the Great Glen and contains two beautiful lochs itself, Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin and Loch Affric. The land was once owned by clan Chisholm and is now one of Scotland's great natural attractions containing a Caledonian Forest Reserve, a National Scenic Area and a National Nature Reserve.

On Saturday I was in Glen Affric to climb five Munros which sit on the ridge which runs along the north side of the glen above the two lochs. My way of ascent took me up the nose of the mountain seen in the image, Sgurr na Lapaich. From there I climbed Màm Sodhail, Beinn Fionndlaidh, Càrn Eige, Tom a' Choinich and Toll Creagach. It was a long, hot, tiring but fantastically rewarding day.

The climb started from close to Affric Lodge which sits on a peninsula at the foot of Loch Affric. There is currently a lot of construction work going on with a new house and other buildings being constructed as well as some renovation of older structures. Just visible in the centre of the image is some of this construction work.

Despite this though Glen Affric is a wonderful, beautiful place and I truly had the most superb weather to enjoy it on Saturday.
