Serious Air
Today I went for my second mountain bike ride since my knee injury nine months ago - my favourite circuit (for those who know it - up Rapaki Track and then along the single track across the top and down through Victoria Park). There is one section of single track which goes through pine forest. You go from bright sunlight to dimly lit forest and your eyes take a minute to adjust, but it's down hill so you're going flat out. It's fast and exciting as you dodge the trees. Sadly, I tried to ride it like I used to when I was riding regularly. Mistake. I did the full unplanned flying dismount - yes, a somersault over the handlebars. No harm done. Feeling a bit thrlled and dangerous, I carried on, only to come across these guys doing the most incredible jumps and catching some serious air. I felt pretty timid after that. And the worst part - they were all about twelve!
