for whose amusement
One of the initially more disturbing habits of the wingpiglet is half-opening his eyes when he's sleeping and when his eyeballs are mostly rolled-back. Depending on whether he's sort of half-smiling or not the effect varies between appearing stoned and appearing stunned. It's quite useful that he can sometimes apparently remain sleeping whilst his eyes are partially open as it hopefully indicates that quite a high level of light is required to wake him up; he seems to respond normally (as far as I'm concerned) to excessively bright light by frowning deeply when exposed to it whether asleep or awake.
I'm trying to make sure (now that I'm back at work for a sustained period) that I expose Edgar to my presence for as long as possible in the mornings and evenings to make up for my prolonged absence during the day, though this morning he was asleep, for most of the evening he was asleep and for all of the late evening he was grumbling and whining but still not exactly paying attention to anything except whatever it was was making him grumbly and whiny, possibly something troublingly bubblingly gaseous in his adomen. When it became apparent that he wasn't in the right mindset to lie down and go to sleep we went out for a jiggle around the block but instead of doing his usual fall-asleep-the-minute-he's-out-in-the-fresh-air he maintained eye contact (though he was fixing on my chin rather than my eyes, though from the angle he was at it was probably easier for him that way) for a good mile before settling down and starting to look like he might have been going to sleep. Whilst the purpose of the evening jiggles is to get him to sleep it's going to be more useful in the long run if he's awake for a bit of them as he can then listen to what I'm explaining to him rather than it falling on sleeping ears.
