first time with charcoal - after a professor at this year's summer academy had told me that what i thought to be charcoal had actually been black chalk, i decided to give real charcoal a try.

this one is bought, but the mentioned professor told me a little trick to make charcoal yourself: you need to collect straight sticks and wrap them in aluminium foil. then you put them into the oven at a low temperature. sounds like fun, though i don't know whether buying it would probably be less expensive than my electricity bill...

fun material, though. love all the smearing and smudging.
