University of Greenwich

Trying something different for today's blip; I'm taking an architectural photograph and turning it in to a black-and-white. Okay, I know the idea itself is hardly new, but it's not something I've ever really had much success with. That being said, I thought this picture had potential so I had a play with some of the conversion options in Aperture, and had a look how they work within a colour workflow. I'm quite pleased with the result, but I never really have an eye for whether or not I've over-done it.

The picture itself is of the towers at the University of Greenwich with the National Maritime Museum in the background. This whole area is just full of astounding architecture of a form I absolutely love. The processing here is basically adding a red B&W filter, then adding a slight amount of blue reduction. I then adjusted the white definition, highlights and vibrancy, tweaking until I was happy with the results.

All comments and hints on this type of processing most gratefully received!
