Culpable Capello
England were dumped out of the World Cup by Germany this afternoon 4-1, their worst ever defeat at a World Cup and probably the worst ever performance. Individually the England team have some great talent, stars in the Premiership, but they played like a third division side. Ultimately the manager is responsible for this farce. Whatever problems and disagreements there must have been within the squad it is the manager's job to sort them out. Obviously this doesn't make him a bad manager because he has a great track record, but he is clearly not the right manager for this particular job.
Without trying to paper over the cracks, England were wrongly denied a goal by Frank Lampard that clearly bounced a yard over the line when it was 2-1 to Germany. Going in at halftime 2-2 would have made a big difference to the result particularly seeing that Germnay's 3rd and 4th goal came on the break. It is appalling that Sepp Blatter continues to refuse use of technology that could easily prevent making such vital refereeing errors.
