mother nature prefers au naturale
place: Railspur Alley, Granville Island (CAN)
mood: abandonment
Out of all the photographs I took at Granville Island, this one in particular stood out from the rest.
All the primary colours of the Additive System are present - red, staining the aluminum side panelling with rust, blue, faintly visible in the upper right corner of the window pane and on the wooden frame in the fading patches of paint, and green, brightly streaking across the window sill in an almost flourescent fashion. Yet, these primaries are subdued by the unrcompromising weather and the unmindful time. The cloudy forecast helps to bring out the discret subtleties.
And as minutes and months trek on, the deep umber will only continue to etch the metal like a corrsive inkblot, and the neon green will flash across the rest of the frame and obliterate the remainder of the blue paint like text at the mercy of a first-year university student's highlighter.
The progressive rusting exposes a range of warms hues, varying from yellow and light orange to crimson red and crisp brown.
The vanishing paint leaves behind traces of pale greenish blue to a darker turquoise.
And the white lettering of the graffiti tag, in stark contrast to the rest of its surroundings, stays true to its original hue, unmarred by the weather nor the time.
