Japanese Primary School
Well, it's officially M's summer hols, but as I have to work to pay for her International school, and the Japanese system doesn't give me holidays until July, M is off to Japanese primary school while her mates are lolling about. Poor wee thing.
it's pretty much like the brownies were for me: it's fine when she gets there, but the dread is palpable from about a week in advance.
The theory of sending her there to absorb a bit of her own culture and catch up with her kanji is all very well from an adult point of view, but she is only 7, and it's going into a world where she is not quite the same as everyone else, and, dread of dreads, isn't up there at the top of her class. And she hates the school dinners as much as I love them (no packed lunches to make for 2 months!!). And they get homework every day.
As with most things the anticipation is the worst part.
Despite quite a few freak outs over the past week, she has been fine since she got there.
She even managed a brief smile this morning on her way out the door.
I still get a kick out of seeing her in a uniform. It feels like "real" school.
