Relieved

In the tea-preparation area by the nurses' station, Sarah was wondering whether anyone would mind if she used the mug.

The last one in the cupboard, it had the look of a cherished favourite; she could all too easily imagine someone taking offence if she took it. On the other hand, it was the only clean one, and the dishwasher was in the middle of its cycle.

What to do? She'd just picked it up, deciding she'd use it anyway, when she was aware of a presence behind her.

She knew the nurse vaguely, but struggled for a moment to think of her name. Ah yes - Becky, she thought.

"Hi Sarah," she said. "Sister's sent me down to relieve you here - says she wants you up at Ward 6 instead."

"What, Medical?" Sarah replied. "What's she want me there for?"

Becky laughed. "Listen, the day Sister tells me why she wants me to do anything, I'll be sure to let you know, OK?"

Sarah smiled back. Turning around, she returned the mug to the cupboard. That solved one moral dilemma, at least.
