If you gave me the choice between a Da Vinci exhibition and a Banksie exhibition, 3 times out of 4 I'd go for Banksie. For me, graffiti lifts the soul. It's not mainly about contemplating the product - it's more about imagining the production process. The implied narrative is all about covert action and suspense in a context of courage, wit, and imagination. And all for the sake of being, well, disobedient. Really, the most damaging instinct we suffer from is obedience - it's a kind of fetishising of status, and it messes us up.
