happy birthday, cancer suvivors!

imagine a world with more birthdays...

today was relay for life, a cancer fundraising event held by the american cancer society. one of my very good friend's mom is a cancer survivor, and we have a student survivor at my school as well. they are truly two of the strongest people i know. this is the first time i ever participated in it, even though i've heard about it for years, and i have to admit: it's really touching.

it was raining on & off all day, and unfortunately, there was downpour during the luminaries ceremony. that's when participants are invited to put a candle inside a white paper bag, which is decorated for or in memory of a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. regardless of the rain, my friend's family & i walked around the high school track observing the luminaries, and i felt the blessings being showered upon all cancer victims in the community.

this day, the day when relay for life is held in the community, is a birthday for those who are fighting or have fought cancer, a reminder that there is hope to pull through. :)

celebrate. remember. fight back.
