This house has a name and history behind it.
This is Gerontopoulos House (or konaki). Apparently, it's the last extant two-floor building since the time of the turkish occupation of the city. In the early 1900's about 10 houses of rich Ottomans (citizens of the so called turkish empire) were still standing in the city.
This konaki was built in 1861. It belong to an Ottoman landowner named Hassan Chouliaras. Later an unnamed Ottoman woman bought it in 1890 for about 130 ottoman pounds. In 1899 it was sold to its present owner.
Despite the ravages of time and owner additions the building still conveys the feeling of the past...
