Last Resort

What an eventful and dramatic day in the World Cup. Favourites Brazil are out, beaten by Holland, and Uruguay scraped through against Ghana thanks to a missed penalty in extra time and two more penalty misses in the penalty shoot-out.

Needless to say, what with those two matches, household chores and torrential rain for most of the afternoon, opportunities to take photographs were pretty limited.

I tried something abstract in the back yard before the rain came but it didn't work out. I did notice that two of the Canna Lilies were in bloom and had escaped the attentions of the squirrels. I took a couple of shot of the lilies as back up -- a good job, too!

I suppose the yellow and red/orange of the lily in some ways resembles the colours of the Ghana team today. I think most football fans felt for Ghana, as they came so close to becoming the first African team ever to appear in a World Cup semi-final. Maybe Ghana will achieve that goal in 2014.
