Sleepy Cherryblossom

Iconic, Grassmarket.

So I was taking all the recycling down to the bin today, I had a couple of bags of it and I dropped them into the bin and started walking away. A few steps along I suddenly had the feeling that something wasn't right. I stopped, turned around to look at the bin, looked down at my hands and *slapping my forehead* realised that I'd also been carrying my camera and I wasn't anymore! ARGH! I'd dropped it into the bin!

Now these bins are not usual size, they are the great big metal communal ones shared by the whole street. You can't just lean in and retrieve your misplaced item....

I spent some time standing staring into the bin in despair. It had been emptied this morning so although there wasn't an awful lot of stuff in it, it also meant that my camera had dropped all the way to the bottom. There was no way I could reach it and no way I could hoist myself into it (if you have ever seen me you'll know that this isn't possible!) and even if I somehow managed to get in I really wouldn't have been able to get back out again! ARGH ARGH ARGH!

I then spent quite a long time trying to rock the bloody thing onto its side which wasn't happening either. Those bins are sturdy. And very heavy. They are designed not to blow over. I'd also like to add that none of the workmen not working outside the Lyceum or the many people who walked past me offered any help at all. Instead they just stared in disgust at the crazy girl trying to bin-rake!

Eventually I managed to pull it towards me while pushing it away with my foot and it fell forwards. I finally managed to gingerly fish my poor camera out.

The whole experience was quite icky and I feel somewhat soiled by it.

But I have my camera back, thank God!

You would think I might have learned to be more careful with it after recent events. Apparently I'm too spongy for that.

I decided a calming treat was in order after all this, so had a much deserved large frozen caramel soya latte (thankfully they know what I like and I don't have to say the whole thing every time I go in), a bit of carrot cake and a read of my new Jasper Fforde book in Tea Tree. And relax.... :)
