Open'er Festival 2010 - Day 1
Hit the road at 9am, my little car was full to the brim with four girls and lots of luggage!
After a coffee stop and coming to a stand-still for 40mins (cue in-car picnic), caused by an accident a few kms ahead, we arrived in Gdansk 6.5hrs later. Not a bad drive, the clio had just enough ooomph to get past the countless lorries that trundled up North. Managed to find Ela's uncle's flat without too much bother, our home for the next three nights, as he packed himself off to his friend's so that we could take over the one-room flat! I've never seen so many things; artefacts, pictures, paintings and nic-nacs, not to mention the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, which groaned under the weight of a vast collection of mostly Polish reading material. He had prepared a meal for us in his minute kitchen, which was washed down with home-made honey vodka and beer! A very warm Polish welcome.
Took a quick walk through the Old Town of Gdansk, in glorious sunshine on our way to the train station, to get ourselves to Gdynia, to get the free bus up to the location of the 2010 Open'er Festival.
It was chaos trying to get in, exchanging tickets for wrist-bands from staff who were very un-familiar with what to do. Darkness had very nearly fallen by the time we got through the entrance gates and the main act were on stage and underway.
Still, the VIP tickets that I won back in March were super good, for two reasons especially - the posh loos and the free minibus out at the end of the night.
Managed to get this shot of one of the VIP seating areas, which looked diagonally onto the main stage, before heading out to the field to explore some more.
