Tufted Duck

I really must brush up on my knowledge of birds.I think this is a coot but I'm sure someone will kindly correct me if I'm wrong.
The first I saw of this bird was a stream of bubbles rising from underwater , and then up pops this little fella.
Could be a tufted duck but not sure.
