Home and Away

Ferry

It's been the most extraordinary, unusual island morning; the air dense and warm, utterly still and balmy, the sea mercury blue, lazy and viscous. The blip was taken from the garden, looking over the wall, watching the lunchtime boat coming in from Scotland. The water is the flattest calm I've ever seen it here, pondlike; the ferry ploughing a blue furrow.

NB - the image isn't sharpened, tinted or changed. This is how it is on South Ronaldsay today. When people ask me what summer was like this year, I'll tell them it happened on a Saturday.
