Ancient and modern

The roadworks around the church are still going on, although not at weekends. This morning I talked to one of the municipal councillors who was, like me, surveying progress, and he said it would be finished by the end of the month. It'll be nice to have a bit of peace and quiet in the afternoons again. Normally the village is noisy in the mornings and evenings, but silent in the afternoons when everyone has a siesta. That's been difficult lately!

In the night I heard distant thunder, but no storm here so it's still very muggy. We've been invited to supper with friends who have a swimming pool, so we'll cool off then.
