A slice of Lesley's life

Warm-up

Starting to prepare the marinade for the chicken for the "It's nearly the summer holidays / World Cup Final" BBQ tomorrow, the colours of the food against the chopping board gently murmured, "blip" in my ear and here they are.

The day started earlier than they have for a while and Carl and I were thrown back into, er what do you do with a one year old at 5.30am? My suggestion of seeing if he liked CBeebies was met with a reminder that it doesn't start 'til 7am. Not sure how Carl compensated for this as he took the early stint as sleep-shifts were once more reinstated in our house. As have tag afternoon naps which, having been had, mean we are both feeling a little more human. Apart from melting in the 30 degree heat, of course, though I am definitely NOT complaining. Overall though I would declare the parentless sleepover a success. The eldest of the guests didn't bat an eyelid and the youngest stoically took it all in his stride - even if we did have to put on the children's entertainer act a little more than we are used to. I did try to blip me and Anna doing a rocking Blondie's Greatest Hits breakfast routine but sadly it was not to be...

Preparing the marinade and shopping for interesting BBQ accompaniments pretty much sums up how I will be spending the largest part of August so this is a lovely warm-up. In every sense.

It's been a bit of a tag parenting day today with ballet classes, birthday parties and a trip to the fair. So I'm especially looking forward to a grown up night out. Carl and I are out for a(nother*) 40th birthday celebration. Dinner in a private room at The Ivy no less which I am most excited about as I have never been. Carl is off to find out if shorts and sandals are acceptable attire.
