Cleaning time
Today we took an (overpriced) tour around the city, visiting the king's palace, a batak factory (not sure if they actually produced in huge quantities, appeared to be just a show for tourists) and a silver factory, which again we weren't sure was actually a manufacturers seen as the hallway they showed part of the silver being made before leading us into a huge silver shop, surprise surprise!
Being less than satisfied with our (half) day tour, we asked to be taken to a cemetry we read about in the lonely planet and a bird market, also courtesy of the book. These were the best parts of the tour! The cemetry was really interesting, although the whole personal tour (only George and I were visiting) was spoken in Javanese! The man was lovely though and i don't think he realised that we couldn't understand as we just repeated some of his words and nodded our heads. We had to dress in full on Java clothing, George looked rather handsome I thought!
This photo was at some old baths, which usually house fish rather than people! It was the day of cleaning the baths out apparently so all the kids came down and chose the opportunity to jump in, it was madness but very funny, especially when they spotted us and tried to persuade us to join them - no chance!
